1: Trial Period:
a. Each child is entitled to a twoweektrial period whereby payment can be made just for those two sessions (£5 per week) to check that the child is settling in. After those two sessions, if the child wants to continue, full payment must be made. This is subject to availability in the class and we recommend that you phone or email ahead to avoid disappointment.
b. If a child starts part way through a half term then the remaining fee can be paid after the trial weeks are up.
c. As each child has a trial period, so does NewChapter Theatre. At any time within the first four week period, if NewChapter does not think that the school is suitable for a particular child, that child can be asked to leave. If a half termly payment has been made, the money for the remaining weeks will be refunded.
a. The fee for each 1 hoursession is £5. Sessions are to be paid for, in advance, on a half termly basis; on the first session of the half term. i.efor a 6 week half term a £30 cash payment will be due on the first session, before class begins. Please see term sheet for details on teaching weeks and holidays.
3: Missed Lessons:
a. If school is closed due to unforeseen circumstances e.g due to illness of teacher and a supply teacher cannot be arranged, the pre-paid fee for the missed class will be carried over to the next half term. i.e if the next half term contained 6 weeks you would only pay for 5.
b. A great deal of planning goes into each session. With this in mind, please advise NewChapterin advance if a student will be missing a session. There will be no reduction or refund for lessons missed by the pupil; thisincludes holidays or illness.
a. Performance of any kind is a physical activity, therefore it is important that students wear appropriate comfortable clothing/footwear. Trainers, pumps or comfortable shoes are a must. Iffootwear is forgotten or inappropriate (e.g heels, flip flops…etc) students may be asked to work bare foot as this is the next safest option.
b. Students will not be required to wear a set uniform, but will be required to wear comfortable and appropriate clothing, such as joggers, tracksuit bottoms, t-shirts, jumpers/hoodies…etc.Skirts, dresses, tight jeans (anything that restricts movement) are not to be worn.
c. Outer layers such as jumpers, t-shirts, joggers with the school logo will become available to purchase.
d. As we approach performances costumes may need to be worn in the sessions.
5: Lost Property:
a. The school cannot accept any responsibility for any loss or damage to personal property.
b. NewChapter recommends that all clothing and footwear are named.
c. Anything we do find will be placed in lost property with the welcome staff.
a. Students are expected to conduct themselves in a disciplined manner whilst attending classes and be respectful to both teachers and fellow students at all times. NewChapter has a 3 level warning system; this is not just intended for ‘bad’ behaviour. Focus and respect (for teachers, the group and themselves) is paramount; an integral part of performance training, nothing can be achieved without it. So with this in mind, students who repeatedly refuse to focus will also be ‘warned’.
b. The warning system (explained): The first warning is a reminder. The second warning will result in the student being asked to sit out until the teacher decides it is appropriate for them to join the group again. The third warning will result in the student sitting out for the rest of the session, and the parents/carers of this student will then be informed. If a student receives three warnings three times, or more, NewChapter reserves the right to remove the student from our registers. If this does happen a refund will NOT be available.
c. Parents waiting during a lesson are asked to ensure that siblings also waiting are behaving appropriately so as not to cause disruption to the class or damage to the building.
a. Classes are divided by age, but these are guidelines and students can be moved or placed in a class by ability at the teacher’s discretion.
b. Parents are asked to wait in the waiting area during classes. They will not be allowed to wait in the hall with the class as this causes a distraction to the students.
8: Holiday and absences:
a. School operates during Kirklees school term times, and will be closed during school holidays. Though summer schools may become available if interest is high enough.
9: Notices & Communication:
a. Notices will be emailed to parents and posted on social media sites.
a. All teachers and workshop assistants are fully qualified, DBS/CRB checked and insured and are fully aware of our child protection policy (however, due to the nature of teaching performance it is sometimes necessary to correct and support students physically. This is always conducted with the utmost care and professionalism).
b. Welcome staff may not be DBS checked, if they are not they will not be left alone with children.
a. Parents have a responsibility to notify NewChapterof any illness and injury that may affect the child’s class.
b. Parents have a responsibility to ensure that NewChapter are kept updated of personal details including changes of mobile numbers and changes to health.
c. No photography or filming is permitted of the students during their class without express written consent from the teacher. Any parent appearing to disobey this rule may be asked to leave the building as this is in serious breach of child protection.
d. Due to agreed times with our venues, all students must be collected on time.
12:First Aid/accidents and injuries:
a. Safety is always our first priority, with our training being verycentred around Focus and Spatial/Physical Awareness. But even with this in mind, performance is a physical activity and therefore accidents and minor injuries can occur.
b. There will always be a fully accredited and trained first aider on site incase of accidents or injuries.
c. Parents/carers will always be made aware of any accidents or near misses; even if the student is physically fine by the end of the session.
a. NewChapter must be made aware of any illnesses, and any medication, that may affect our sessions (e.g asthma, diabetes…etc).
b. NewChapter cannot administer any medication or drugs, without express permission, written consent, and detailed explanation from parents/carers.
c. All medication must be in original containers with a doctors/pharmacists label (with the student’s name on). Medication that is loose or is not obviously prescribed to the student will be unused and returned.
d. NewChapter reserves the right to refuse to administer medication.
14: Health and Safety:
a. The safety of our students is paramount. NewChapter and its teachers will do all they can to protect and prevent injury in our students. But we cannot except responsibility for students who are behaving foolishly or not listening.
b. Students will not be asked to do any heavy lifting. They will be expected to carry and move their own chairs, but nothing heavier than that.
c. All our venues are risk assessed, with every reasonable precaution taken to ensure a safe working environment.
NewChapter Theatre reserves the right to amend or alter these terms and conditions at any time without prior notice and they will be available on NewChapter’s website.
